Nancy : Hi， John. Long time no see! How have you been doing?
John: Hey， Nancy. It's great to see you again. I've been doing all right. How about you?
Nancy : I've been busy studying and working….
John: I heard you live in New York. That's a great place to live; I've always wanted to live in a big city.
Nancy : Thanks， I enjoy it.
John: In fact， May and I have often discussed buying a house up there.
Nancy : Oh， are you guys living together?
John: No， but we're thinking about the future together.
Nancy : I see. Well， I'll be glad to let you know if I hear of some for sale. But be ready to pay a lot in taxes.
John: Yeah， I heard that property taxes are really high in New York.
Nancy : You bet they are…it's an expensive city.
John: I know you only work part time to pay for your school. Are you making ends meet?
Nancy : I figure I am. It's kind of tough every month though.

*you bet : 물론， 틀림없다
*property tax : 재산세
*make ends to meet : 그럭저럭 수지를 맞추다， 빚을 지지않고 살다
*figure : 생각하다， 예상하다

Nancy : 안녕， 존. 정말 오랜만이다! 어떻게 지냈어?
John: 낸시 아니야? 다시 만나다니 너무 반갑다. 난 잘 지내고 있지. 넌 어때?
Nancy : 난 공부하랴 일하랴 바쁘지…
John: 너 지금 뉴욕에 산다고 들었는데. 거기 정말 살기 좋은 곳이지; 난 항상 큰 도시에서 살기를 원했었거든.
Nancy : 고마워. 나도 거기에서 사는 게 좋아.
John: 사실， 메이하고 나하고 그 쪽에서 집을 장만해 볼까 종종 얘기했었거든.
Nancy : 아， 너희 둘이 같이 살거니?
John: 그렇지는 않은데， 후에 그렇게 할까 생각 중이야.
Nancy : 그렇구나. 음， 매물로 나온 게 있다고 하면 기꺼이 알려줄게. 하지만 엄청난 세금은 각오해야 될 거야.
John: 그래， 뉴욕에서는 부동산 세금이 정말 비싸다고 들었어.
Nancy : 아는구나. 정말 비싼 도시야.
John: 내가 알기로 넌 학비를 대려고 그냥 부업만 한다고 들었는데， 살림이 그럭저럭 되니?
Nancy : 그런 거 같아. 하지만 매달 힘든 건 사실이지.
